The rumors and anticipation over next week's expected unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S4 super Android flagship phone are reaching a fever pitch. Will it have eye-scrolling? Will it be all bendy and unbreakable? Will it usher in the unicorn apocalypse?
But this is the world of technology in 2013, where the only question that really matters is: What's next?
Fortunately, there's a new rumor out today to temporarily satiate our appetite for the future and allow us to look past the still unofficial Galaxy S4 toward Samsung's next next big move, which will apparently be a new phablet just shy of 6 inches that would be a logical follow-up to theGalaxy Note 2.
The source went on to tease that the big-boy phone would be powered by Samsung's own Exynos octa-core chipset, but likely won't include any of the flexible display technology we've been seeing for years. No word on eye-scrolling or unicorns.''Samsung is working on introducing a new phablet using a 5.9-inch organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screen,'' an official told The Korea Times on condition of anonymity.
It's always tough to assess the credibility of one anonymous source, so I'm taking this one with a hefty dose of sodium, but it bears repeating because it falls in line with Samsung's strategy of late, which is to provide a device in just about every possible shape and size.
The Korean juggernaut has also become more aggressive in its hardware iteration and update schedule -- as the springtime debut of the Galaxy S4 demonstrates -- so a follow-up to theGalaxy Note 2 later on this year also makes sense.
Of course, the real question is, will Samsung have its new almost invisible phone ready in 2014?
