Nokia Lumia 720, 520 - UK price suggests higher than expected price in India 2013

U.K. retailer reveals pricing for Lumia 720 and Lumia 520, handsets expected in April.

Clove, a retailer in the U.K. has revealed the price for the Nokia Lumia 720 and Lumia 520 Windows Phone handsets. The retailer's site states that the Nokia Lumia 520 will be priced at £141.66 pre-VAT (Rs. 11,740 approx.) and £169.99 after VAT, while the Lumia 720 will be priced at £249.99 pre-VAT (Rs. 20,720 approx.) and £299.99 after VAT. Although the United Kingdom does have a higher VAT (20%) than India (12%), the pre-VAT prices suggest that both the new Lumia handsets will probably cost more than we expected when they are launched in India.

Both the Lumia 720 and the Lumia 520 were revealed by Nokia during the recently concluded Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. At MWC, Nokia has stated that the expected prices for the handsets would be $330 (Rs. 17,850 approx.) and $183 (Rs. 9,900 approx.) respectively. But the U.K. prices revealed by Clove makes us believe that the handsets will be priced higher than expected in India. This trend is also revealed by comparing the current prices for the Lumia 920 in India and the U.K. The Lumia 920 is currently being sold unlocked in the U.K. For £500 (Rs. 41,440 approx.) whereas in India, the same model is being sold at around 15% less (Rs. 35,000). This suggests that the Lumia 720 may be priced in India at around Rs. 21,000 while the Lumia 520 could see a price tag close to Rs. 12,000.

Both the Lumia 720 and the Lumia 520 are expected to launch in the first week of April.
