The HTC M7, the company's next flagship smartphone designed to replace the HTC One X+ in Europe and the Butterfly/Deluxe in the rest of the world, has been leaked ahead of its launch next year.
Currently working under the codename HTC M7, the next-generation Android smartphone apparently includes a 4.7in 1080p high-resolution display with an impressive 468 pixels per inch density.
According to details leaked to Unwired View by an unnamed source, the device will include a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor running at 1.7GHz and 2GB of memory. 32GB of storage will be available, along with a high-resolution 13 megapixel rear-facing camera. Using a new image sensor, dubbed Cinesensor, the high-resolution camera should be capable of recording 1080p Full HD video, lower-resolution high-speed video and high dynamic range (HDR) still images. The rear camera is, as usual, joined by a lower-resolution two megapixel model at the front, also capable of recording 1080p video.
Connectivity includes 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) support along with 42Mb/s 3G HSDPA, and multi-frequency 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi. Sound is provided, as is usual on HTC devices, by a Beats-branded amplification system and in-built stereo speakers, while power comes from a 2,300mAh battery. Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, the latest version of Google's mobile operating system, is also included, skinned with a new edition of HTC's Sense user interface.
The news comes as HTC confirmed that is would not be producing a planned Windows Phone 8-based large-screen phone-stroke-tablet device, having decided such a system would fail to sell in the face of Android devices like its upcoming M7 handset.
Thus far, HTC has not commented on the leak nor provided a timescale for its M7 release, but many in the industry are expecting to see something at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas next month.
