Up-and-coming phone-maker joins the big-screen
party.
ZTE has officially revealed the Grand S, its latest and most
advanced flagship smartphone yet, at the annual Consumer Electronics Show
(CES).
Featuring a five-inch display – a screen size that’s fast
becoming a trend for 2013 – the successor to last year’s Grand X rocks a full
HD resolution and a crisp-sharp 443 pixel density that’s identical to the Sony
Xperia Z and the Huawei Ascend D2 – also showcased this week at the Las Vegas
tech expo.
Under the hood you’ll find a brawny 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4
processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of flash storage (microSD slot included). On
the rear sits a 13-megapixel autofocus shooter with LED flash and full HD
recording capabilites.
4G LTE support is included too, as is Dolby Digital surround
sound and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean installed out of the box with ZTE’s custom
interfACE UI slathered on top.
All this is packed into an ultra-thin 6.9mm frame, which ZTE
claims is the world’s thinnest for a five-inch full HD kit. Although that also
means the battery capacity is not quite as great at 1,750mAh.
Still, it’s certainly a very impressive-looking bit of kit and
could be just the device to put ZTE on the map as a genuine contender to its
more established Android rivals.
Alas, release details for the Grand S have not
yet been revealed but word on the Vegas strip is that it’ll land in China in
the next few weeks, followed by the US and EMEA markets in the first quarter.
