Just as colourful and amazing, only cheaper
and smaller.
Nokia has officially announced yet another addition to the
growing Lumia family, this time the Lumia 620 that’s aimed at bringing the joys
of Windows Phone 8 to the lower end of the market.
Billed as the "most affordable in its range of Windows
Phone 8 smartphones", Nokia’s Lumia 620 is as bright and colourful as its
older, pricier siblings, but with a more modest set of specs in a smaller and,
in our view at least, much cuter form factor.
Highlights include a 3.8-inch ClearBlack LCD display of an 800 x
400 resolution, a 1GHz dual core processor with an Adreno 220 GPU and 512MB of
RAM and a none-too-shabby five-megapixel shooter with LED flash that records
videos at 720p HD.
Elsewhere there is 8GB of on board storage, which is expandable
through a microSD slot (a welcome addition, we must say) and a front-facing VGA
for making video calls and whathaveyou.
It also comes pre-installed with several essential and rather
useful apps, such as Nokia Drive for free turn-by-turn voice-guided driving
navigation, and Nokia Music, which offers free music streaming similar to
Spotify Radio.
"We continue to execute on our strategy to reach new
audiences and new markets," said Jo Harlow, executive vice president at
Nokia Smart Devices.
"With its innovative design, the latest Windows Phone 8
software and signature experiences from Nokia, like Nokia lenses, Nokia Maps
and Nokia Music, the Nokia Lumia 620 is a highly competitive smartphone at this
price point."
The Lumia 620 will go on sale in January 2013 in Asia, followed
by Europe and the Middle East shortly after. Alas that mean it’ll miss the
holiday period, as it would have no doubt made an excellent Christmas present.
As with previous Lumia phones, there’ll be an array of colours
to choose from, including cyan, lime green, orange, magenta, yellow (our
favourite), white and black. Although pricing has not been cemented yet it’s
expected to cost the region of $249 (£155).
