Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 finally hits the UK 2013

Available now from £229
Some months after Amazon last refreshed its tablet range, the online giant has added another model, the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9.

Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 finally hits the UK
As you might have guessed from the name, this is a larger tablet with an 8.9-inch screen, should the old 7-inch format be a little restrictive for you. That screen has a 1920 x 1200 resolution with 254ppi, so certainly no slouch when it comes to clarity and is able to cope with HD video.

Also on board is a dual-core 1.5GHz OMAP4470 processor, Dolby Digital Plus sound and a choice of 16GB or 32GB storage. Price-wise, we're talking £229 for the 16GB model and £259 for the 32GB tablet. If you don't want ads on the lockscreen, you'll have to pay an extra £10 for each.

You will need an Amazon account to get the most out of it, which means access to Kindle books, Amazon MP3 music, Amazon Cloud and, if you pay the subscription, the Amazon-owned Lovefilm movie streaming service. Apps too, albeit curated by Amazon via its own Appstore.

It is available now at Amazon, with stock to follow in Currys, PC World, John Lewis, Tesco and (surprisingly) Waterstones.
