The 4G space is set to see more competition in the near future with the likes of Videocon planning to launch their services on the network.
Videocon, Nokia Siemens Networks tie-up to roll out 4G services in India
Videocon has confirmed plans to launch its 4G services in the country, as it announces partnership with Nokia Siemens Networks to facilitate the roll-out. The telecom giant has however not revealed concrete timeframe for the launch of the fourth generation broadband services. It's notable Nokia Siemens is already facilitating Videocon's 2G network.
“...4G Network is capable of providing comprehensive IP based telecom solutions that allows voice, data and streamed multimedia services in a seamless manner at much higher data speed than the existing generation network including 2G and 3G. This, going forward shall address consumer requirement of enhanced data service experience including Video Chat, Mobile TV, HD TV content, digital video broadcasting etc and overhaul the existing mobile data communication in the country,” a company official is quoted as saying.
Videocon has bagged the spectrum licence in six telecom circles including Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh East and West in the November 2012 auction. The operator is likely to use 1800MHz spectrum to roll out the fourth generation mobile wireless network in the country. According to Videocon, it has purchased “liberalised” spectrum licences that means it could offer services on 2G, 3G, or 4G networks.
Right now, Airtel is the only 4G LTE service provider in the country. Reliance Industries-owned Infotel Broadband has a pan-India 4G licence and is also expected to launch its services in the country later this year.
The 4G service providers are likely to provide voice calling services on the network as well. The Telecom Commission recently allowed the wireless broadband airwave holders to launch voice services provided they are ready to pay an additional Rs 1,658 crore.
